A downloadable Alexa game

Speak a new language through contextual immersion

Our voice controlled game, Gabbledegook, aims to teach people new languages. It's a totally hands-free language learning app played entirely on Amazon Alexa.

Unlike apps such as Duolingo, which isolate learning from the context, you are immersed in a real world scene and encouraged to use your new found skills through speech, our most natural form of communication.

Due to the time constraints during the Game Jam, we have opted to teach Harry Potter spells instead of a language.  The idea is that you can replace the spells with any language and wizarding scenarios with cultural scenarios relevant to the language.

This is how it works

  • Learn your language in a digital "classroom" setting
  • Practice your skills in a real scenario
  • Repeat.
  • Finally, fight the "boss battle" by using all the new skills you have learnt, with only minimal help from Professor McGonnagal

This is the best part!

You can learn all of this hands-free so it is good for when you're multitasking at home; Study while you're cooking at home, nursing your baby... you can even pretend to hold a wand and swish it around!
